Summary: ABSTRACTThe thesis aims to —by untying the yarn, as George Simmel (2006) would say —comprehend the genesis of the criminological knowledge from the XIX century, product and producer of racism, that allies to a modernity project whose hidden face is "coloniality" (DUSSEL, 2005). My objective, in this perspective, is to demonstrate that the transit of ideas in Brazil is not explained by a mere reception of exogenous theories —which reinforces the theory of overlapping in social circles. Afterward, my focus is turned to the tensions between Critical Criminology in Latin America and a Critical Latin American Criminology to situate more specifically the Critical Brazilian Criminology and its insurgencies. I support the emblematic position of the woman and the academician, Vera Andrade, in the intellectual circles and in the dynamics that affect the current criminological thought. To proceed with the analysis, I opt for the critical view of her path and the tangles between characters, works, groups, publications, events, and international flows that allow me to demystify "science" and position it in everyday practices and micro-movements. Methodologically, I associate theoric and bibliographical research to "life narrative" and empirical survey of her social circles. By following the paths of the professor, researcher, mentor and nucleator, I intend to approach a sociology of knowledge and of the intellectuals that accentuate woman as the protagonist of an "epistemological turn" at the same time that I highlight Brazil as the locus of enunciation when producing theory in transnationals dialogues. I recognize at last the ramifications of her presence in the vitality of the circles launched by those who were mentored by her and that advance in the critics from new demands and questions. Keywords:Critical Criminology; Vera Andrade; intellectual women; social circles; modernity-coloniality.
